Climatic benefits of forests in Europe

The aim of this series is to pull together research across this region in order to increase our knowledge towards a better understanding of the climate benefits of European forests. This will inlude the use of reforestation and afforestation to mitigate for local and regional climate change in Europe, and policy implications of these measures.

Case study for the assessment of the biogeophysical effects of a potential afforestation in Europe

Based atmospheric carbon projections and a climate change model, afforestation may be an effective strategy to mitigate for increases in temperature in Europe. Planting of deciduous forests is predicted to decrease temperatures and increase precipitation across many areas.
